This story is adapted from 'The Monk of Putian' in The Martial Arts Section of Classified Collection of Qing Dynasty Anecdotal Novels.

Pu Tian Seng’ tells the story of a young man from an official family in Putian, Fujian, who becomes a monk.

He lives off the longan trees by the temple but faces harassment from local ruffians who steal the fruit, leading to the temple’s decline.

After three years of training at the Shaolin Temple, he returns and bravely confronts the troublemakers.

He defeats them with a stick, forcing them to swear off further disturbances and warning them against wrongdoing in the community.

Despite his newfound reputation as a skilled fighter, he chooses to never speak of his martial arts again.
